Best Data Science Courses in Europe for 2026: Degrees to Bootcamps

The best data science courses in Europe for most people in 2026 are public master's degrees: the EIT Digital Master School's Data Science double degree, TU Munich's M.Sc. Data Engineering and Analytics and the University of Amsterdam's one-year track. The catch is nationality. EIT Digital is free for EU/EEA citizens, for example, but costs about €16,000 a year for everyone else.

This guide is for graduates, working professionals and non-EU applicants choosing between a degree, part-time continuing education and a bootcamp. It ranks eight options, from ETH Zurich certificates to Le Wagon and TU Delft's free edX course. It then covers what changes the real cost of each: ECTS credit, the teaching language, funding such as Germany's Bildungsgutschein and France's CPF, and visa rules.

We compared each programme's published curriculum, fees, format and credential using the providers' official pages, as they stood in September 2026. We did not survey students, interview alumni or audit job outcomes, and we have left out placement claims because providers do not publish them in a comparable form. The ratings are our editorial scores reflecting the criteria below, not user reviews.

• Curriculum depth. Does the programme go beyond introductory Python into statistics, machine learning, deep learning, data engineering and deployment? Does it address generative AI and responsible AI in a way that reflects European regulation?
• Format. Full-time, part-time, online or blended, and how realistic the weekly workload is.
• Credential recognition. Accredited degree, ECTS-bearing certificate, national certification such as a French RNCP title, or private certificate.
• Total cost. Tuition for EU/EEA and non-EU students, plus the living and opportunity costs a programme implies.
• Support. Teaching contact, mentoring, projects and career services where they are published.
• Fit for working professionals. Whether you can realistically combine the course with a job.

As an AI practitioner who has hired and mentored data scientists across EdTech, financial services and technology, I weighted curriculum depth and credential recognition most heavily. They are what hiring managers can verify.

How do the eight courses compare on cost and format?

The three master's degrees are cheapest for EU/EEA citizens but take one to two years; the certificates and bootcamps take weeks rather than years and carry little or no ECTS credit.

How do you choose among the best data science courses in Europe?

Degree, continuing education or bootcamp?

The three main routes solve different problems. A master's degree is the right tool if you are early in your career, want to work for large employers or research-led teams, or need a recognised qualification for immigration purposes. It is also the slowest route: one to two years of full-time study, plus an application cycle that for many European programmes opens in the autumn or winter before a September start.

Continuing education, such as ETH Zurich's CAS programmes, suits people who already have a degree and a career and need to add data or AI capability without stopping work. You get university-level teaching and ECTS credits, but not a full qualification in data science.

A bootcamp is built for speed. In roughly nine to twenty-four weeks you leave with practical skills and a portfolio project. That can be enough for analyst or junior roles if you bring relevant domain experience, but it does not replace a degree where employers or visa rules require one.

What else to weigh

Start with your residency status. It shapes cost more than anything else. EU/EEA citizens can often study a full master's for the price of a semester contribution or a statutory fee. Non-EU applicants face tuition at EIT Digital, TU Munich and Dutch universities, so for them the gap between a degree and a part-time certificate is much smaller than it looks.

Understand the credit. ECTS makes European programmes comparable. Sixty ECTS is the equivalent of a full year of study, and one credit usually represents about 25 to 30 hours of work. That tells you ETH Zurich's 12-ECTS CAS is roughly a fifth of a full-time year, while TU Munich's 120-ECTS master's is two full years. Bootcamps and most online certificates carry no ECTS at all. That is fine for building skills, but it matters if you later want credit towards a degree or need a formal qualification.

Check the language, all the way through. Many programmes are fully English-taught, including TUM's Data Engineering and Analytics, the University of Amsterdam's Data Science track and EIT Digital. Others mix languages, and some French online diplomas expect at least B2 French. Even on an English-taught degree, learning the local language widens your job options in Munich, Paris or Madrid.

Use funding you are entitled to. In Germany, the Bildungsgutschein is a training voucher that the employment agency or Jobcenter can issue to eligible job seekers and people at risk of unemployment. It covers AZAV-certified courses, and Ironhack's online Data Science & Machine Learning bootcamp in Germany (listed at about €8,500) is one that advertises eligibility. In France, the CPF personal training account can fund certified courses such as RNCP titles from OpenClassrooms and Liora (formerly DataScientest), though learners now contribute part of the cost. Erasmus Mundus scholarships are open to applicants worldwide.

Think about regulation as a skill. The EU AI Act and GDPR mean European employers value data people who understand documentation, risk assessment and privacy by design. A programme that treats responsible AI as a real module rather than a single lecture is better preparation for work in Europe.

For international students, keep visas in view. A degree programme with physical attendance is usually needed for a student residence permit, and online-only study generally does not qualify. After graduating, many EU countries allow a job-search period, and the EU Blue Card is a common route for qualifying skilled roles. By contrast, Ireland, Denmark and Switzerland run their own national systems. Rules change, however, so confirm them on official government sites.

Look beyond the eight. Other credible options include KU Leuven's Master of Artificial Intelligence in Belgium, data science and analytics MSc programmes at Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin, Ironhack campuses in Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin, Paris, Lisbon and Amsterdam, and European business-school courses such as HEC Paris's on Coursera. Questions to ask before you enrol

Whichever route you pick, get clear answers to these before you pay a deposit:

• What is the total cost for someone of my nationality, including semester fees, materials and any exam or certification fees?
• Is every module taught in English, and are any assessments in the local language?
• How many ECTS credits does the programme carry, and will another university recognise them?
• What are the weekly contact hours, and how many hours of self-study are expected on top?
• For bootcamps, is the course AZAV-certified in Germany or CPF-eligible in France, and what exactly does career support include?
• When was the curriculum last updated, and does it cover deployment and responsible AI as well as modelling?

A provider that answers these clearly and in writing is usually one that runs its programme well.

Which course should you choose?

You are a recent EU/EEA graduate with a quantitative degree. Apply to EIT Digital's Data Science programme and TU Munich, and add the University of Amsterdam if you want to finish in a year. At these fee levels, a full European master's is hard to beat.

You are a non-EU graduate on a tight budget. Put Erasmus Mundus scholarships at the top of your list, and apply for EIT Digital's merit scholarships. Compare the total cost of TUM's non-EU tuition with Dutch institutional fees before deciding, including rent in Munich and Amsterdam.

You are a manager in Switzerland or southern Germany. ETH Zurich's CAS in AI, Data and Machine Learning gives you a credible, ECTS-bearing credential and AI fluency without leaving your job. If you want hands-on skills, look at ETH's CAS in Applied Statistical Data Science.

You are changing careers in Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam or Lisbon. A Le Wagon or Ironhack bootcamp gives you structure and a portfolio in weeks. If you are unemployed in Germany, ask your advisor about a Bildungsgutschein before paying anything yourself.

You live in France and want a formal credential online. OpenClassrooms' Data Scientist path, or an equivalent RNCP certification from Liora, can be funded through CPF or an apprenticeship.

You are a software engineer moving into machine learning. If you can take two years out, TU Munich's Data Engineering and Analytics programme builds directly on a computer science degree. If you cannot, TU Delft's free certificate plus your own deployment projects will close the gap faster than a general data science course. So will the ML engineering modules of a part-time bootcamp.

You are not sure data science is for you. Start with TU Delft's free AI Skills certificate on edX. Spend twelve weeks on it before spending thousands of euros.
